 The agency was originally started in 1908. It was located, from the records that we have, at 843 San Benito Street and was called "The Shaw Insurance Agency". In our history lesson on BLI, We were told that they also sold Hay, Coal, and Ice.
At some point the agency became "Higby and Shaw Insurance Agency". We have an antique safe dated back to the early 1900's that was made especially for the Higby and Shaw Agency and it is still in our lobby area today.
In 1960 the agency was sold and became "The Bishop Nyland Insurance Agency". In 1965 Perry Bishop took over full ownership of the agency and turned the agency into a successful thriving business.
In 1975 Richard and Sandra Lusink purchased the agency from Perry Bishop and changed the name to "Bishop-Lusink Insurance Agency", which is what we still go by today.
In 2000 the agency was sold once again to Katherine Vais who carried the agency into the 21st century. We are looking forward to celebrating our centennial anniversary in 2008. |
